Torchlight – A game you should feel guilty for not buying

Torchlight from Runic games is a Diablo style RPG, heavily action orientated and more or less the point of the game is clear out dungeons, finding specific items for quest givers. The attraction to these sorts of games has usually been in the levelling up of your character, and for me, that is still the attraction. However, another one the draws was online co-op play, which is sadly lacking in this title, but as this game was designed to be exploited by the modding community, there are talks of that co-op play injected into the game via an optional downloadable mod.

PlayStation 3 Firmware 3.00: Impressions

Yep, Firmware update 3.00 for the PS3 is finally here. Sony skipped 2.90 for some random reason, probably to use the hype behind the “mysterious 3.00 update that will fix everything” rumours floating around the internet to their advantage, which i never understood. Just because it is a full number means nothing at all when it comes to firmware updates for the PS3. Our biggest update yet was 2.40, ’nuff said.

Gran turismo, why damage still isn’t needed.

Gran turismo has always been my favourite driving series, always had the most true to life driving experience that was included in a full game. There are other driving simulators available on the PC but they are not games, anyway, like i said – the most true to life driving experience.

The Gran turismo series has a massive following, it is Sony’s biggest game franchise with it topping 52million units sold. Gran turismo 5 prologue, which is just a demo of what is the come in the full Gran turismo 5 game sold 4 million copies! But enough about sales, they don’t prove anything. But just look around the Playstation community and you do find a huge Gran turismo following, and that is for one reason – the driving!

The best single feature this generation of consoles has brought to us

downloadbaleDownloadable games are not really a new thing to the gaming world, but since Sony, Microsoft (and to a lesser extent, Nintendo) introduced a platform for developers to create games specifically for them to be downloaded straight to the consoles, it has taken on a whole new meaning.

Independant developers have been saved from being swallowed up by an industry that is now making games which average in cost of £10 – £15m each. No longer do they have to become some code monkey for a barbie horse adventures because what they really want to do is not financially viable to them.

‘Splosion man – My review

Splosion man came totally out of nowhere for me, i had never heard of it till recently and it isn’t really something i would jump out of my seat to go run and buy it. But after hearing so many people raving about it i decided to try out the demo, i was instantly hooked, i bought the game without even finishing the demo, just unlocked it there and then.

The game is currently only on xbox live arcade for 800 microsoft points, but Twisted pixel (The developers) are not against the Idea of bringing it to the PSN, apparently, their last game, The maw was going to make it over to the PSN too, but sony denied it as they have a policy which stops any previous exclusive game to another platform being released on a sony platform after 6 months without having a certain amount of extra content, which Twisted pixel didn’t want to do with that game.

However, i’m sure this type of game could make it over to the PSN due to how the game is set up, surely creating extra levels or bonus stages wouldn’t be hard for this type of game. Or, if they act fast – they may not have to create more content if they get it on the PSN in under 6 months. Either way, i really hope this game is released on the PS3 (and maybe a PSP version (or through remote play!)) because it would be a great addition to the PSN library.

The reason the xbox 360 got its place.

The xbox 360 isn’t really selling as well as Microsoft would like it, however. There seems to be favourable opinions of it in the gaming media and quite a large gaming audience. Why is this? We know the actual console is built like shit, so it must be the software? Of course it is, and microsofts competitors should of known this, especially sony – being around in the electronics business for so long, far longer than microsoft had even been around.

Well, look at the original Apple vs Microsoft war, Macintosh up against windows. Microsoft saw something that no one had seen before and focused 100% on the software,  hence the reason they managed to gain dominance.

I’ve just been blown away, again.

Yep, killzone 2 again. I praised the ground it walks on in my review so you should already know that i love the game. However, up until a few days ago, I had always said that the multiplayer was the reason to own killzone 2, that has been changed now.

Waste of fucking money.

Splinter cell: conviction has been delayed, i did recently post a list of games i wanted at the end of this year. The only xbox 360 game i wanted was Splinter cell: conviction, so what, that leaves me with the GTAIV DLC for my xbox 360.

I did originally own an xbox 360 back when it came out, sold that one for an elite which i also sold a few months after i bought it and then went without a 360 till around September of 2008, because i decided to buy one after hearing all the xbox 360 owners hyping their machine up again, about how many games it has, how the PS3 didn’t have any, so i thought i would get one for all these great games.

So i got my new xbox 360, then found out i couldn’t get access to my live account, couldn’t remember password or security questions and didn’t have access to the email i signed up with it anymore, so i lost those Arcade games i bought before i sold my old 360 since i had to start up a new live account.

Playstation 2 – Why it is still relevant.

I constantly hear these games journalists from the large media outlets talking about how sony are “beating a dead horse” by talking about the PlayStation 2 all the time, saying that the console is no longer relevant and they should stop talking about it and drop it.

The PlayStation 2, is probably the best games console ever made. I know for a fact many gamers will disagree and i’m not sure i would class it as MY favourite console, but simply looking at the facts and NOT just the sales numbers, its hard to deny it was an incredible console in many ways and its success was well deserved, unlike a certain other console.

Anyway, why is the PlayStation 2 still relevant? I’ll tell you, you may disagree because no doubt this will be a highly opinionated post, but i still believe that the PS2 has a better games library than all three of the current generation consoles put together and there are a very small percentage of people who have experienced all the great games the system has to offer.
