Torchlight – A game you should feel guilty for not buying
Torchlight from Runic games is a Diablo style RPG, heavily action orientated and more or less the point of the game is clear out dungeons, finding specific items for quest givers. The attraction to these sorts of games has usually been in the levelling up of your character, and for me, that is still the attraction. However, another one the draws was online co-op play, which is sadly lacking in this title, but as this game was designed to be exploited by the modding community, there are talks of that co-op play injected into the game via an optional downloadable mod.
Anyway, this game is available on steam, the past weekend had the game up for £7.50, having enjoyed the demo and heard nothing but praise, i just jumped in. I thought, at the very least, I’m supporting a great independent developer, that is planning to use the profit they make off this game to make a Torchlight MMORPG, which is nice to see. But thankfully, i did enjoy it. I’m enjoying it enough to of created multiple characters, a mage and a warrior. The mage, I have to say seems more fun levelling up, using all the spells and using the tactics to be as efficient as possible in combat, whereas with the warrior, it just seemed like I was mashing my mouse button at all the enemies.
But really, i’m not here to review the game, not yet at least. Just to tell you all to go try the demo out, its up on steam and available on www.torchlightgame.com. If you enjoy that, then buy it, don’t think twice, just buy it. It isn’t often we see a game so full with character such as Torchlight, and its clear the guys at Runic games put an unbelievable amount of effort into it, these guys deserve your support. The sale is over, but for £15, the game is still extremely good value.
